What is the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?

Stump grinding is grinding the stump down below natural grade anywhere from 6 to 12 inches to create a flat surface where the tree once stood. Stump removal is grinding deep enough to get under the stump and includes most of the root zone. Stump removal is clean, economical, low-impact way to get rid of stumps that are in the way of new construction projects or underground repairs.

How much does stump grinding cost?

There is no set price when it comes to stumps. Several factors go into pricing stump jobs. Size, species, depth of grind, access, and quantity all play a role into the cost of the job. We give free estimates and would be more than glad to come out and do a site visit to come up with an exact quote.

What about the utility lines?

We call a utility locate before starting the job. It is a free service by calling 811. They require 2 business days to mark the utilities from the street to the house. They mark the gas, power, communications, and sewer. They do not mark water lines, downspout pipes, irrigation, or any wire past the power meter.

Are you licensed?

Yes. I am licensed, bonded, and insured. My CCB number is 125604. You can go to the Oregon Construction Contractors Board website and look this information up. This is a great way to check on contractor status. When a contractor shows status of “ACTIVE” that means the CCB has proof of insurance on file, bond on file, and the contractor has completed all of the required education to become licensed. They update the database daily.

What about the chips?

When we grind stumps we grind dirt and wood together creating a mulch. This mulch stays on-site in a pile where the stump was. It consists of about 25% dirt and 75% wood. Haul-off can be arranged for an additional cost.
